About 

The Utah Prison Education Project offers a bachelor’s degree pathway for incarcerated students inside the Utah State Correctional Facility in Salt Lake City. There are currently twelve incarcerated students in the program, on track to receive a Bachelor of Arts Degree in University Studies with an emphasis in the Humanities

 In April of 2024, fifteen selected students from the women’s prison submitted their University of Utah
applications to become matriculated students at the university while incarcerated.

 

In May of 2024, all fifteen students received acceptance notifications as official undergraduate students.

Classes Inside

Since Summer of 2024, College of Humanities professors from departments such as Communications, History, Writing and Rhetoric, and Philosophy have taught courses for the student cohort.

With the help of personnel from the Office of Undergraduate Studies Information Technology, students can access laptops to use Canvas, and work on their research for courses and capstone projects.
